The UFL has only seen a handful of Quarterback movement this off-season, however a recent transaction on the wire caught plenty of attention on Saturday afternoon. The UFL announced on Saturday that Battlehawks QB Max Duggan has been released from his contract, with rumors circulating that he could be joining a CFL team.
Duggan was a high profile signing for St. Louis in December, leading to the team to releasing A.J. McCarron and battling it out with Manny Wilkins and Duggan in camp. Duggan would start the season as QB2 only to be thrust into the starting lineup as the starter upon Manny Wilkins tearing his Achilles. Duggan would put up respectable numbers as rusher, however struggled to find consistency as a passer which ultimately led to his benching in the XFL conference championship game.
Duggan could have his next opportunity in the CFL sooner rather than later. Duggan was added to the Toronto Argonauts “Neg list” on June 10th, 2025, and could be called to action as a short yardage option, especially when rosters expand. Despite his shortcomings as a passer Duggan still managed to put together 300 yards on the ground with 5 touchdowns. The Argonauts are currently 2-8 this season after their Grey Cup victory, dealing with a Chad Kelly injury and no true change of pace option at QB.
For the Battlehawks the QB situation gets a bit more complicated as the team has more questions than answers. Duggan’s departure may open the door for a Manny Wilkins return who will now be 30 years old come 2026. The team also has Chevan Cordeiro, along with the rights of Brandon Silvers who operated the team’s offense in the most efficient manner over a limited span. The Battlehawks finished last year with an 8-2 regular season record losing in the conference championship to the D.C. Defenders.

I think Duggan will do a great job in a running quarterback role in the CFL. With the bigger field, it might open up more passing opportunities as well. As far as the Battlehawks and talking about the rest of the quarterbacks being on the team, we may have to see which, if any, of those quarterbacks come back. If Wilkins were great and 30 he would definitely be back. I am sorry, but you cannot issue an ultimatum to Stallions fans and expect the Battlehawks to again go through what they just did. As many if you know, it was quite obvious, to me and Blake Williams and DeAndre Baker even if they won’t admit to it in an interview. Mike Repole needs to watch Battlehawks games and ask himself how did this ever happen? This needs to be the most important step he takes.
