While the UFL season is a bit quiet, a former Stallion is heading into the spotlight. Philip Montgomery, who spent the 2024 season as the Offensive Coordinator of the Stallions, will now try to right the ship at Virginia Tech as their interim Head Coach.
Montgomery takes over a Hokies team that is currently 0-3 and has fired fourth year Head Coach Brent Pry. Prior to Viriginia Tech, Montgomery spent the 2024 season as the Offensive Coordinator for the Stallions overseeing one of the best Offenses in the UFL enroute to the Stallions 3rd consecutive UFL championship. Montgomery saw nine offensive players earn NFL contracts in 2024, including Adrian Martinez and Kevin Austin both of whom, are still rostered on NFL teams.
Montgomery is the second UFL alum to earn a Head Coaching opportunity. D.C. Defenders Head Coach (23-24), Reggie Barlow is now the Head Coach of Tennessee State replacing Eddie George who is now at Bowling Green. Montgomery is now in his second opportunity as Head Coach, as he owns a record of 43-53 after spending Eight years as the Head Coach at the University of Tulsa.
