On the first day of UFL free agency the league saw a move many fans weren’t expecting. After the Arkansas Razorback fired their Head Coach Sam Pittman along with defensive coordinator Travis Williams, co-defensive coordinator Marcus Woodson and defensive line coach Deke Adams, the school announced that Jay Hayes would be joining the staff for the remainder of the season.
Hayes currently holds the title of Run Game Coordinator/Defensive Line coach spending the past three seasons with Arlington. Previously, Hayes was with the Spring League, in addition to the 2020 St. Louis Battlehawks as their defensive coordinator. Hayes spent 19 years as an NFL assistant coach, primarily with the Bengals as their Defensive Line Coach, while also having stints with the Bucs, Vikings, Steelers and Packers.

Hayes is the second UFL coach to make a headline in the coaching ranks this year with Philip Montgomery (former Stallions OC) taking over as the interim Head Coach at Virginia Tech. It is also worth noting that Hayes will serve under former Houston Gamblers/Roughnecks Defensive Coordinator Chris Wilson who was recently promoted to Defensive Coordinator. It is unknown if Hayes will return to the Renegades at this time.
