Notable Player Moves

Lewis Cine, S – Removed by DC Defenders

Cine was a first-round pick (32nd overall) by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Georgia. He was named Defensive MVP of the College Football Playoff National Championship Game after the Bulldogs defeated Alabama in January 2022.

At Georgia, Cine started 27 of 39 games and recorded 73 tackles and nine passes defended in his final season. He ran a 4.37-second 40-yard dash at the 2022 NFL Combine. Cine was part of Georgia’s historic 2022 draft class that produced five first-round defensive players.

Cine suffered a compound leg fracture during a punt coverage play in Week 4 of his rookie season in London against the New Orleans Saints. The injury required two surgeries and ended his 2022 season. He appeared in 11 NFL games over three seasons with the Vikings and Bills. The Vikings released Cine in August 2024. He spent time on the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles practice squads before joining the DC Defenders. Cine earned a Super Bowl LIX championship ring with the Eagles in early 2025.

Gareon Conley, CB – Added by DC Defenders

Conley was a first-round pick (24th overall) by the Oakland Raiders in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Ohio State. He played in 42 games for the Buckeyes and recorded six interceptions over his college career. Conley earned Second-Team All-Big Ten honors as a senior in 2016.

In his second NFL season with the Raiders in 2018, Conley recorded three interceptions, including a 36-yard pick-six against Baker Mayfield. He held Tyreek Hill to one catch for 13 yards in a 2018 game against the Chiefs.

The Raiders traded Conley to the Houston Texans in October 2019 for a third-round pick. He sacked Patrick Mahomes in a 2019 playoff game against the Chiefs. Conley signed with the DC Defenders in December 2023 and returns to the team for the 2026 season.

K.J. Hamler, WR – Added by Orlando Storm

Hamler was a second-round pick (46th overall) by the Denver Broncos in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Penn State. He caught 56 passes for 904 yards and eight touchdowns in his final season with the Nittany Lions in 2019.

Hamler was known for his speed at Penn State. He ran a 93-yard touchdown reception against Ohio State as a freshman, earning Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors. Hamler did not run the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine due to a hamstring injury but posted sub-4.3 times in training.

Hamler’s NFL career was derailed by injuries. He tore his ACL and dislocated his hip in Week 3 of the 2021 season. Hamler suffered multiple hamstring injuries and was diagnosed with pericarditis in 2023. The Broncos waived him with a non-football illness designation in July 2023. He appeared in 23 NFL games over three seasons in Denver.

Irv Smith Jr., TE – Removed by Louisville Kings

Smith was a second-round pick (50th overall) by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Alabama. His father, Irv Smith Sr., was a first-round pick (20th overall) by the New Orleans Saints in 1993 and played seven seasons in the NFL.

At Alabama, Smith caught 44 passes for 710 yards and seven touchdowns in his final season in 2018. He averaged 16.1 yards per reception and earned Second-Team All-SEC honors. Smith ran a 4.63-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, the fourth-fastest among tight ends.

Smith recorded 36 receptions for 311 yards and two touchdowns as a rookie in 2019. He missed the 2021 season after suffering a meniscus injury in the preseason. Smith appeared in 54 games over five NFL seasons with the Vikings, Bengals, Chiefs, and Texans.
