As a head coach in the XFL and the UFL, Orlando Storm Head Coach Anthony Becht has never had a losing season as a head coach. During the three seasons that Becht led the Saint Louis Battlehawks, the worst record the Battlehawks posted was 7-3. However, despite being one of the most successful head coaches in modern spring football history, he has yet to win a championship.
This season, Becht has another opportunity to build another championship-contending team and finish the job this time with his first UFL championship. To accomplish that goal, Becht is leaning on what helped him succeed in Saint Louis: the excellent coaches on his staff. The Orlando Storm officially announced today that Becht has named Kyle Caskey as Offensive Coordinator and Donnie Abraham as Defensive Coordinator.
Kyle Caskey comes to Orlando to manage Becht’s offense, and he brings previous experience running the offense Becht prefers due to his experience in Saint Louis as the Battlehawks Running Backs coach and Special Teams coordinator. Caskey is expected to install and offense based on a foundation of power football, mutliple variations of pass protections to pick up exotic blitzes, and an overall pro-style attack that not only will help the Storm win games in the UFL but also to develop players for the NFL. Before coming to the UFL, Caskey spent several seasons coaching in the NFL.
Caskey started his coaching career at the professional level in 2020 with the Cincinnati Bengals as a Quality Control assistant coach and Assistant Offensive Line coach. Heading into the 2014 NFL season, Caskey was promoted to being the Running Backs coach for the Bengals a position that he held until 2018. Caskey’s next stop was the Jacksonville Jaguars where he served as the Jacksonville Jaguars Offensive Quality Control coach.
Similar to Caskey, Donnie Abraham has several seasons of experience working with Becht as the defensive coordinator for the Saint Louis Battlehawks. Abraham has been the only defensive coordinator that Becht has worked with during his time as a head coach, and that familiarity has built a trusting relationship. The defenses that Abraham has coached are built from the front to the back, with a strong defensive line to win on the line of scrimmage, linebackers that can flow sideline to sideline and stop the run, and a Tampa 2-based scheme used to build a cap to contain opposing offenses.
Abraham also brings experience from the NFL as a defensive back for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Jets from 1996 until 2004. As a coach, Abraham has a background in diverse coaching opportunities, including serving as a defensive back coach at the high school level in Florida. He worked his way into defensive coordinator positions with the Tampa Bay Storm of the Arena Football League, the University of Illinois, and the Orlando Apollos of the Alliance of American Football. Since then, Abraham has been building great defenses for Becht, and while coaching for the Battlehawks, Abraham was known for having the best run defense in the XFL and UFL.
