With the UFL in flux, many members of past teams have begun moving on to their endeavors. Whether it be coaches or players, the UFL is in full transition mode as the league moves into its 3rd year of operation. One coach Jim Turner was seemingly not retained for the 2026 UFL after serving as the interim Head Coach for the Memphis Showboats.
After several seasons in spring football, Turner now joins Greg Schiano at Rutgers where he’ll serve as the Big Ten school’s Offensive Line Coach for the next year. Turner has spent time with the New Orleans Breakers, and Memphis Showboats, in addition to stints with the Miami Dolphins, Cincinnati Bengals, Texas A&M, Texas State, Harvard, Boston College, Delaware, Temple, Louisiana Tech, and Northeastern.
An Offensive Line “guru” Turner has developed numerous offensive linemen who would go on to play in the NFL, including first-round picks Luke Joeckel (2013 No. 2 pick by Jacksonville Jaguars), Jake Matthews (2014 No. 6 overall pick by Atlanta Falcons) and Cedric Ogbuehi (2015 No. 21 overall pick by Cincinnati Bengals). He’ll now return to college for the first time since 2021 (Texas State), joining the Rutgers staff that includes a former player of his Isaiah Washington who spent 2025 with the Showboats appearing in six games.
Turner’s departure from the UFL joins a growing list of coaches who have moved on from the league (voluntarily or not) going into the new year. Recently CJ Johnson, and Kyle Caskey, found jobs elsewhere while Skip Holtz had confirmed he will not be returning in 2026.
The UFL is scheduled to kick off on March 27th, with the first round of Quarterback allocation scheduled for January 5th to begin the 2026 season.
