With the uncertainty of the UFL’s rosters and the push for younger players. Bryce Perkins has opted for the CFL. The two-year Michigan Panther recently signed with the Carolina Panthers during the NFL’s training camp and was released at the conclusion of camp.
Perkins joined the UFL after three seasons with the LA Rams in which he appeared in five games making one start, earning a Super Bowl with the Rams in 2021. He’d join the UFL after an injury to Panthers Quarterback E.J. Perry, and Danny Etling. After splitting reps with Brian Lewerke, and the Panthers waiving Perry, the Panthers opted for a quarterback battle between Etling and Perkins.
Perkins would win the QB battle and turn out an MVP performance that ended with the Panthers in the UFL championship game. Perkins totaled 1,342 passing yards, 9 passing touchdowns, while adding 269 rushing yards, and 5 rushing touchdowns on the ground. Perkins not only earned the MVP, but also was named All-UFL at Quarterback, in addition to the Offensive Player of the Year, and earning the Player of the Week three times.
Perkins joins a Winnipeg squad that may look for a replacement due to Chris Streveler dealing with an ACL tear. With Zach Collaros going into his age 38 season, Perks could not only compete for the short yardage option but possibly provide value to the Blue Bombers who have seen Collaros struggle with injuries in the past.
The Blue Bombers currently have Collaros, Terry Wilson (former Houston Gamblers QB), and Chase Artopoeus on the roster, with Streveler on injured reserve. The “Michigan Panthers” roster has only re-signed Rocky Lombardi so far this season, however no further notice has been given about future roster allocations for the defunct franchises.
